Wine Tasting Provence: A Connoisseur's Dream Come True
The region of Provence popular for its wine and food is situated in Southern France. This region featuring warm ,dry climmate with its major parts receiving snow during the winter months is situated on the Mediterranean sea. It is thought that the first wine grapes were planted in the soil as far back as 600 B.C. If you are planning a trip here, you should know that Provence wine tasting is one of the most popular and enjoyable activities you can partake in.
You should know that the majority of wine produced in Provence is red and rose. Only five percent of all wines produced in this region are white. If you ask wine lovers who have been to Provence and tasted the white wines, they will likely tell you that they were far from spectacular. If you want spectacular wine, go for the rose and red wines of this French region. The rose wines are made with red grapes which have white juice. The rose color is created when the white juice is blended with red grape skins. The best rose wines in Provence come from Tavel which is located close to Avignon.
When tasting red wines, you will need to decide if you want to taste a young wine or a mature wine. Many collectors of wine taste young wines to get an idea of what the mature wine will taste like years down the road. They bring the young wine home to their cellar and let it mature. If you just want to taste ready-to-drink wine you will want to choose a mature red. Because you likely won't be bringing home large quantities of wine from Provence due to importing regulations, you will be charged a tasting fee. Even vineyards in the United States charge tasting fees to help recoup their costs.
Wine tasting Provence is an incredible experience for the wine lover. Even more enjoyable is the pairing of fine wine with the foods of the region. There are fine cheeses to sample along with the wine that have been lovingly made in the region and placed in caves to ripen. You'll also find delectable dishes like broiled fish with herbs du Provence, which is a special blend of spices used by chefs of this region. The number one reason people travel to Provence is to sample the incredible food and wine, and once you do you'll understand why!
