What You Should Know About Wine Tasting Recipes

Anyone who has a wide knowledge about wine would also have known about the pairing of wine and food. The more you know, the more you can enjoy.Wine tasting recipes help your guest to taste the best wine which comes along with samples. The first type of food you will definitely want to include at a wine tasting party is cheese. At some parties the cheese course is one of the first and is served before the main dish. It is important to serve an assortment of cheeses which correspond well to the wines being served.

The basic rule of thumb when it comes to wine and cheese is light wine goes with light cheese, and heavier wine goes with heavier cheese. Light wine includes most white wines including Chardonnay, Asti Spumanti, Sauvignon Blanc, White Zinfandel and Pinot Grigio. Cheeses to serve with these types of wines include Baby Swiss, Asiagio and Brie, to name a few. When it comes to hearty red wines like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir good cheese choices include Gouda, Cheddar and Edam. On your cheese platter you will want to include garnish such as olives, grapes and figs.

Another fabulous dish to serve at a wine tasting gathering is fresh salsa with the tortilla chips of your choice. There are many different varieties of salsa you can make but a simple recipe would be to combine chopped tomatoes, onions and peppers with cilantro, jalapeno and red pepper. You can vary the jalapeno and red pepper to suit your tastes. Another idea for your wine tasting party is to serve two entrees -- one for white wine and one for red. For white wine go for chicken or fish, and stick with beef or hearty Italian dishes to be served with red wine.

You can create your own custom wine tasting recipes which suit the types of wine you are serving as well as your individual preferences. There are a great many cookbooks on the market which can help you come up with the perfect foods to serve with wine. Here are two great choices: The Wine Lover's Cookbook: Great Recipes for the Perfect Glass of Wine by Sid Goldstein and The Great Little Food With Wine Cookbook by Virginia and Robert Hoffman.
